Boilermaker

‘Thinking Drinkers’ Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham have collaborated with us to produce Boilermaker – a Welsh whisky IPA.

Boilermaker is the seventh collaboration India Pale Ale to come out of the craft brewery. We invited writers and bloggers, including Melissa Cole and Tim Hampson, to develop their ‘ultimate IPA’, which has resulted in a range of styles, including a traditional East India Pale Ale and an American style IPA.

Ben and Tom – two award winning drinks writers – chose to brew a 6.5% IPA, matured with Penderyn whisky infused oak chips in casks from the distillery, resulting in a complex and fruity beer, with a warming whisky buzz.

Bill Dobson, head brewer at Brains, said: “We supply Penderyn with the wash for their whisky, so it’s great to be able to brew a beer using their single malt.”

All seven IPAs, including one from Brains, will be independently judged at an event on Thursday 6th December. The winning beer will become part of Brains’ beer festival programme.

Boilermaker will be available in cask in 30 Brains outlets from December 30th. For a full list of stockists CLICK HERE.
